NEW YORK CATALYTIC CONVERTERS

The State of New York has now adopted the California standards for new AMCC’s (Aftermarket Catalytic Converters), under 6NYCRR 218. Beginning January 1, 2014, replacement catalytic converters must either be original equipment manufacturer (OEM) parts, or new aftermarket replacement converters certified by the California Air Resources Board (CARB). CARB certified converters can be identified an Executive Order (EO) number printed directly on the converter, as well as the packaging. This new requirement applies to all model year 1993, 1994, 1996 and newer vehicles that were manufactured under 50-State or California emissions certification. New aftermarket replacement converters certified as meeting EPA’s basic emission standards may still be installed on some vehelice applications.
