Flowmaster attends 19th annual 'Kool April Nites'
Located in the city of Redding, CA., this fun show is nestled below the Cascade mountain range with a beautiful view of the 14,000+ ft tall Mt. Shasta as a backdrop. The Sacramento river runs right through the middle of the city, with the show site located on the huge lawn of the convention center, which parallels the river and the “Sundial bridge” that draws tourists from around the world. It's a must see.
On Friday night, the city hosts a really great cruise for car show participants to cruise on Hilltop Drive. They close off the five lane street and direct all the traffic to flow one direction in roughly a one mile loop for the two hour cruise. Spectators line the streets five to six deep with lawn chairs on both sides of the streets too enjoy the parade. Only vintage cars are allowed on the cruise route, with the Redding police department patrolling on motorcycles making sure of that. It was really cool to see all the old cars cruising the avenue like yester-year.
They said the cut off for the show was set at 2000 cars, but I would guess they went way over that number with all makes, models and years being represented from 'Mild to Wild'. Saturday was a bit chilly and as the day went on, the wind started blowing harder and harder coming down off the snow covered Mt. Shasta... Brrrr... But, it didn't seem to stop anyone from enjoying the largest car show featured on lawn that I have ever seen.
Sunday was awards day, with some very worthy cars receiving some well deserved attention and trophies as they paraded through the big-top tent set up on site that hosted activities such as a daily pancake breakfast and bands playing the night away on Friday and Saturday evenings. I feel it was a really cool show with a lot of nice cars, lots of very friendly people and hosted by a great little city. So onto my next stop, the Four Wheel Jamboree in Springfield, MO. I've never been to one of these events before, so it should be interesting and fun. We'll talk to you later. Have a great week.
