Cruisin Ocean City event in MD
What a fun place to have a car show, on the boardwalk, out on the pier in Ocean City, MD. If you've ever been on the East coast in early May, you know the weather can sometimes be very uncooperative. Friday morning the rains came, and it was cold and windy. Saturday was a really nice day. The crowds were out in force. We were busy all day long and I sure was glad to have Jim and Dennis Kerr there helping me cause I couldn't have done it without them. Sunday, the show was shortened once again by the rains. They moved the awards up two hours early, and that turned out to be a good decision. Just as the final awards were being delivered, here come the rains once again. But for the most part, it was a very good show. They cut off the car entries at 3000, and they said there were another 3000 there that were not registered. The convention center was also jam packed with vendors and display cars, and they had bands playing most of the weekend there. Every parking lot and empty lot was filled with cars. I heard people were renting out their lawns for people to park their cars on.
Don "Big Daddy" Garlits was there all weekend signing autographs and having pictures taken with people. He seemed to be quite busy all weekend. He brought Swamp Rat VIII, which is one of his front engine dragsters from the sixties. I don't know how those guys drove those cars, when all you see is that big old blower and the back of that monster hemi. Not to mention that differential sitting between your legs, that's scary!
It was a really fun weekend, the streets were always busy till way after midnight, rain or not, it just didn't matter. People were there to be with their friends and to have fun and play with their cars. We awarded a trophy for a very nice blue 34 Ford "Vicky." The car was built by the owner Raymond himself. It was a three year project. He has a set of 40 series Flowmaster mufflers on it, and it sounded really good. Raymond told me that he has three more cars on the drawing board, and said that he would be using Flowmaster's and Hushpower's on them. Thanks Raymond.
My next stop is on the shores of Lake Michigan, we will be there doing an open house with Motorstate Distributors, one of our larger distributors. So you guys have a great week, and we'll talk to you later. Bye for now.
